Kara Adopts

INTRODUCTION

Hello Mama! My name is Kara.

I live in Seattle, in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

Thank you for taking some time to learn about me and my heart for becoming a Mom. I am so looking forward to welcoming a little one into my home, family, and community.

I have always delighted in children. My first jobs were babysitting and since those long-ago-days, I have been: Auntie, caregiver, teacher, guardian, Orphanage Director, Godmother and counselor to children from newborns to 17.

Thanks to my previous experiences, I understand the importance of a child knowing and connecting with their family of origin. I would love to work with you to design an open adoption that would work well for our families.

ON ADOPTION

I am so excited to be a mom and help your child grow into the unique and wonderful person they are meant to become.

I am excited to share my love for life, God, the earth, and others with a child and to delight in experiences together.

The idea to adopt first took root for me when I volunteered for a year in Honduras. Working with children there, I just knew that someday I would adopt. Fast forward 15+ years and I had the honor of caring for an infant/ toddler for the first three years of her life... affirming my desire to be a Mom.

Now my heart’s truest hope is to become a forever mom through adoption. My life has been blessed by every child I have cared for and loved; and I cannot wait to share my love and joy for life with my own child.

“Kara is one of the most amazing people I know. Her quiet strength, thoughtfulness and calm and caring personality make her both a fierce advocate for a child and a natural mom.”

Getting to Know me

Travel

I lived for five years in Latin America
and speak Spanish fluently.

I love visiting friends I made while in Honduras, El Salvador, and Bolivia and plan to travel internationally with my child when they are older. Your child will have the chance to learn Spanish and grow up bilingually.

My Faith

I am a member of the Episcopal Church and I attend most Sundays. I will give your child the opportunity to learn and ask questions at their own pace. I myself found my way back to church and my faith after many years away and I am so thankful for my faith and church community. My church is progressive, welcoming, affirming of all, and will care for, pray for, and love your child as they grow up.

In My Professional Life

I am a mental health counselor. My work is very flexible and lends itself well to parenting. I will take 4-6 months of maternity leave to care for your little one and give them the best start possible.

My home and community

I love spending time outdoors and enjoy the freedom and learning opportunities this gives children.

Living so close to the ocean, mountains, and forests gives us lots of options for exploring. My backyard also has tons of space for outdoor play including a playhouse and “mud kitchen” for little ones. I believe big messes are wonderful learning opportunities. And I mean, who doesn’t love a warm bubble bath to clean up afterwards?

Living in Seattle gives access to both a beautiful outdoor playground and the diversity and fun of a city! We’ll have fun visiting the zoo, aquarium, farmer’s markets, and urban parks. Seattle has a great library system as well, the library in my neighborhood offers story-time for kids in 5 different languages!

My neighborhood is quiet and safe, and has lots of families and young kids in it, along with great choices in schools.

Planting seeds and watching them grow is so fun for kids AND adults!

Some Things I Enjoy in My Down-time

  • Reading

  • Writing

  • Hiking

  • Painting

  • Gardening

  • Kayaking

Family Traditions

  • First birthday parties are a huge deal in my family! We celebrate the child’s first trip around the sun, the family that has cared for them, and the community that has welcomed them. And of course, baby tries their first cake!

  • Thanksgivings are spent with family visiting the Oregon coast.

  • Easter egg hunts: older cousins/friends are tasked with hiding the eggs, while the younger cousins get to look! Everyone gets to hunt for the “golden egg” that Grandma stuffs with the traditional $20 bill.

“Kara has a generous and joyful spirit; she is a friend who I can always count on for an empathetic ear and loving support.”
