Joshwa and Tom Adopt

INTRODUCTION

We are so appreciative that you are taking the time to get to know us and our family.

Though we can never truly understand all you are going through and considering right now, we hope you are able to find comfort in whatever decision you ultimately make for you and your child.

We are both Registered Nurses and actually met each other at work. We have been together for nine years; married for six. We started our journey to parenthood by fostering with the intention to adopt. We fostered an infant girl for the first three months of her life and would have loved to adopt her, but her grandparents came forth and she was reunited with her family. At this point in our lives we want to start a permanent family and adoption is the right path for us. We would love an open adoption, but will honor and respect whatever relationship you are comfortable with.

We want you to know that if you do choose us, we will love your baby unconditionally. We will provide all that they need and support them at every turn.  They will join a large, diverse, accepting, and caring family.

OUR love STORY

We met each other for the first time after Joshwa was on leave from the Navy.

Tom worked as a RN and Joshwa was working as a Nursing assistant. We were so awkward around each other at first and would spend entire shifts sitting near each other, but not talking. Our friends, frustrated by our shy behavior, actually set us up by inviting us both out and then leaving us together. We were both raised Catholic, came from families of six, and shared common values and ideals.

We both were close to our siblings and our parents and were lucky enough to have parents that loved us unconditionally. We both wanted a forever relationship; the kind you see in movies. We both shared the dream of marriage and children, and knowing that our end goals were the same really made dating quite easy for us. We have been together nine years, married for six years, and we look forward to every new day and adventure together.

“Thank you again for considering us, and taking the time to get to know us a little better.”

Home sweet home

We live 20 minutes North of Sacramento in a fast growing town.

We fell in love with the area because we felt like it would be a great place to start a family and raise our kids. There are lots of different parks throughout the city, far too many to count, and a number of different schools to choose from, one of which is a highly sought after Elementary school within walking distance of our home – one of the selling points of our home, since we have always imagined walking with our child to and from school. We also fell in love with the area due to the diverse population it offered. We are surrounded by so many fun activities we can’t wait to share with our own children someday.

To the North, within an hour or so, Lake Tahoe is perfect for skiing and snowboarding in the winter and fun adventures on trails and water sports for the summer. To the South, roughly the same distance as Lake Tahoe is San Francisco, which offers so many fun adventures.

the Ones we love

Both of us come from families of six. Two parents and four children. Josh is the eldest and Tom is the second.

All older women or men other than your parents or grandparents are called Aunts and Uncles in the Filipino culture regardless of blood relation. We plan to have our children do the same. On Tom’s side we use Grandpa and Nana and on Josh’s side they use Lolo and Lola.

Both of our families are caring and compassionate.

We love to play games together as families with a good amount of competitiveness, but always in good fun. Both of our families enjoy hanging out and catching up or debating topics. We enjoy dining together and watching movies. Thanksgiving is Tom’s family’s big Holiday because everyone including extended family can get together and share stories. We also have a “Friendsgiving” around the same time where we have dinner and game night with all our friends and their children. For Joshwa, New Years is the biggest holiday where the entire family celebrates the new year.

in closing

We are so appreciative that you have taken the time to get to know us and our family.

We want you to know that your child will become a part of a huge and diverse family and they will forever be loved and accepted.

We will ensure they grow up with a sense of belonging, and they will want for nothing. We will introduce your child to a multitude of sports and activities, to nature and to learning. We will support their hobbies and likes to the utmost of our ability. We are ready for whatever level of openness you are comfortable with, and we will always honor you as we help your child understand their story. Thank you for considering adoption and we wish you the best on your journey towards your final decision, whatever it may be.

Sincerely,
Joshwa & Tom
