Adoption has been forever changed by social media. Now more than ever, hopeful adoptive parents are making meaningful connections online by doing their own outreach. When used thoughtfully, social platforms can quickly expand your networking circles and help your story reach the right expectant parents. Here are a few practical tips to get started:
Keep Your Accounts Consistent
Choose account names that match across all platforms. Use the same profile picture and cover photo so your pages are instantly recognizable no matter where people find you.
Link Your Profiles Together
Make it easy for visitors to move between your accounts. Add links to your adoption website, online profile, or blog on every platform so people never hit a dead end.
Use Hashtags Wisely
Hashtags can help new people find your posts, but don’t spam them. Keep them relevant to you, your story, and adoption. A good rule of thumb is to use 3–6 well-chosen hashtags instead of filling your caption with dozens. On Instagram, you can also search hashtags to discover new ones that fit your story.
Engage With Your Audience
When someone comments on your post, reply—even a quick “thank you” goes a long way. Ask questions, run polls, or share quizzes on Instagram Stories to encourage interaction and keep your audience engaged.
Learn as You Go
You don’t need to be perfect. Track what works, repeat the strategies that bring the best results, and allow your presence to grow over time. Small, consistent steps can make a big impact.
